Shedd Great Lakes Course: Share your Voice

Hello,
I am excited to share this blog post as the new school year begins, because I have some new activities to share with the students.  I have learned of so many new resources and activities through the Shedd Aquarium Great Lakes course and I cannot wait to share them with my classes.  The lessons that have been most impactful relate to the topics of ecosystems, food webs and invasive species.  I have added many of the new resources to the Energy in Ecosystems unit for the 6th grade curriculum.  We will be learning about the Rainbow Darter by studying their needs, food chains, human interaction and the invasive species that impact them. I look forward to conducting a Socratic Seminar in which the students will study lite locations that could potential become the new homes of reintroduced populations of Rainbow Darter.  Through our class discussion we will decide which location along the Illinois waterways would be the best habitat for these fish.  I will be using many of the links shared below in my lesson. Feel free to check them out and get to know the material we will be studying.
